Song Birds

 

Carolina Wren Male

King of the Hill

This piece shows this noisy little songster with dropped wings strutting on his turf during a courting display. He is positioned on a mound of stones covered with lichens, moss and mushrooms. The bird and environment were carved from a single piece of wood. The bird is painted with acrylics using brush and airbrush, and is mounted on a natural butternut base.

Basswood

Ties are still strong for this male and female cardinal even though winter has arrived. They are shown  perched on a snow fence constructed from basswood and copper wire, set in a simulated drift of snow. The birds and environment are painted with acrylics using brush and airbrush and are mounted on a natural walnut base.

This pair of curious male and female Eastern Bluebirds are individually carved and mounted on a hand carved western red cedar ball washer. The number and ball can be customized. Both birds are painted with acrylics using brush and airbrush and mounted on a natural butternut base.

This male Eastern Bluebird is shown on a hand twisted section of simulated barbed wire attached to an emerging skunk cabbage plant. The bird and environment is painted with acrylics using brush and airbrush and mounted on a natural butternut base.
